The HOSL Railroad
Stuart is an overseas member. His O27 layout features veteran tinplate trains. Readers over a certain age may have fond memories of playing with similar trains in childhood.
Stuart writes "I have not made much progress over the summer, I did go so far as to place all my tin plate from the attic on the living room floor and try to visualize the space needed to incorporate it in a new layout. I did pick up two Marx locos this summer, a 591 and a 999. The 591 runs nicely on test track and I have repainted it green and black, the 999 is in its original black livery.
My layout is call the HOSL, the initials stand for the railroad's owners over the years, Hugh being the original owner, then passing it down to his nephew Oliphant and then on to me and the L stands for Linda, my good wife and owner of the right of way as well as accountant. Based on the fact that loco No.1 came from Gamages in London some time before 1912 it is, as a result of Christmas excursions round the tree, the oldest operating railroad in Newfoundland!"
